Terre des
Hommes (TdH) is a child rights organisation, based in the Hague,
Netherlands and a member of the International Federation Terre des
Hommes (Geneva, Switzerland). Terre des Hommes was founded in 1965 with
the objective to improve the quality of life of destitute children,
regardless of race, faith and political orientation.
Terre des Hommes Netherlands has established 4 (four) regional offices:
in Kenya, India, Bolivia and Indonesia. The regional office for
Southeast Asia based in Jakarta, Indonesia was established in 1984.
Manila sub-office was established in 1992. Recently, another
sub-office was opened in Phnom Penh, Cambodia to implement child
rights and education programmes there.
The Southeast Asia regional office covers five countries in the region: Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Cambodia.
To manage its program areas efficiently, TdH has prioritized spesific geographical areas such as:
In Indonesia : Java, South Sumatera, Bali, Batam, West and East Nusa Tenggara
In Philippines : Metro Manila, Bicol and Visayas
In Thailand : Bangkok and the Northern provinces
In Cambodia : Phnom Penh, Takeo, Kandal, Kampot and Battambang province.
The regional office operates outside the above mentioned geographical
areas in case of disaster/ emergency situations, refugee support and
when the spesific content of a program requires a wider geographical
approach (such as human trafficking).
The overall objective of TdH is all children ( a person under the age of 18 years old) to
be free from violence and exploitation, to be protected, to be
educated, to be cared for, to have their rights assured and to live in
circumstances in which they can enjoy their childhood and develop
themselves.
The
strategies and approach are related to the realization of various
international agreements and conventions such as UN Convention on the
rights of the Children (CRC), the ILO Conventions no. 138 and 182 and
on the Millenium Goals. Priority is given to the main sector of
intervention that are health care, education and socio-economic
development.
